PM Orbán: Everything must be done to ensure that Europe withdraws sanctions
Hungary’s prime minister Viktor Orbán says the economy is in trouble because of sanctions against Russia. For this reason, every effort must be made to lift the sanctions by the end of the year.
Viktor Orbán’s speech at the parliamentary group meeting
Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, gave a speech at the Fidesz-KDNP parliamentary group meeting in Balatonalmádi. Orbán stated that the Ukrainian-Russian war is not a local conflict. The sanctions have turned the fight into a global economic war. Orbán expects the war to continue this year and the next.
Orbán believes that Brussels’ sanctions are behind the economic difficulties. The Hungarian prime minister said that if the sanctions were lifted, prices would immediately fall and inflation would also fall. Orbán said that every effort should be made to ensure that Europe lifts the sanctions by the end of the year at the latest.
According to Orbán, the sanctions are not hurting Russia, but the people of Europe. The Hungarian prime minister said that before the elections he thought that the circumstances would be predictable. However, economic and trade sanctions were adopted in Brussels in June, which overturned everything.
Orbán also mentioned opposition politician Ferenc Gyurcsány. In response, members of the parliamentary group started chanting “Never again Gyurcsány!”, index.hu reports.

Economic measures
The Prime Minister would support small and medium-sized enterprises through a programme. The biggest problem is the huge rise in energy prices. Orbán reminds everyone that Hungary’s energy supply is secure. There is enough gas, electricity and oil. The sanctions are causing serious damage to Hungary, but the Hungarian prime minister added that “there is a chance for Hungary to emerge from this crisis as the country that can overtake the bend”.
According to Orbán, the sanctions do not hurt Russia, but the people of Europe, hvg.hu reports.

More soldiers
Orbán said the war worries people, but inflation is having a direct impact. Inflation in Hungary is also high by European standards.
Orbán has withdrawn soldiers from the border. They will be replaced by border fighters. More soldiers are needed to defend Hungary, writes 24.hu.

The sanctions ARE working – https://www.thedefensepost.com/2022/09/01/russia-missiles-running-out/
You need A LOT of (foreign) tech to to build weapons, let alone “smart” weapons. Enter Iranian drones (they’ve been subject to sanctions for a while – creative by now) and old North Korean stock,. The Russian army is running out of bits – even deploying 1960s vintage T-62 tanks (which we sent to the scrapheap in 2004?) in Ukraine, now, 2022 (any volunteers? Those things are death traps on a modern battlefield. Ammunition not conforming to the current standard. Your soldiers are going to really dislike you!). Mobilization is great – you need to equip those troops, though.
In addition, what the linked article also doesn’t mention is that Russia is now using S-300 (NATO code SA-10 Grumble) surface-to-air missiles to strike land targets. That’s pretty expensive, non-specific (they’re for arial targets, right) hardware to be using against ground targets!
Perhaps it’s for a reason? Sanctions? Hurting Russia’s ability to fight?
Yes, the sanctions are working. But it shows Orban’s in trouble. Anything he suggests is to save his own skin. Our economy will be far worse than he’s making out, and largely due to decisions his government has made over this past year. Not sure why he’s mentioning Gyurcsany, trying to distract perhaps.
